DescriptionFriends have been enquiring after her health. The sacrement was dispensed at Urquhart last Sunday, late in the season due to 'scarcity of provisions over the country'. He gives an account of services and discusses biblical passages. Sandy is grateful for her letter, and is preparing for College, departing on foot in ten days. [14 October] Alexander gives an account of James Macpherson, whose India legacy would not cover his debts to friends who had lent him money. Their claims were now with a Writer in Edinburgh. Alexander intends to send his bill to the same Duncan Cameron, and she is entitled to £10 from this, which will be applied to her nephew Charles. [19 October] Alexander narrates the case of Thomas Holm, the eldest son of Hector Holm, the manager of Invergordon Post Office. Thomas stole a bill of exchange from from India in his father's office, to cover debts incurred at College. His father sent money for payment of the debt and to recover the bill, but the son then stole money from a letter and now resides in Tain gaol, before standing trial in Edinburgh.
