He had an account of her from Alexander Small, saying that she was able to stand, go about the house, and attend church. Alexander gives some local news of mutual acquaintances and his own spiritual condition. He has received a letter introducing Mr. Mayor, Vicar of Shawbury in Shropshire and quotes from a leter from Mr. Dickenson on Mayor. Hugh Calder has been in dejected spirits for three years; his eldest son has gone to India as a surgeon. [Missing section] Alxeander describes his stiffness of fingers, which hampers his writing, and his contrivance of a cloth thimble over his thumb, with a hook fitted to receive a pen. He now writes with ease.
