| Description | Dr. [James] Gregory called on Alexander and after an examination mentioned the surgeon George Bell. He could not be secured immediately but will call that day, and Alexander will relay the result that evening. He gives an account of delivering packets, making calls and finding lodgings at Mr. Boy's. He has heard through Sandy that his sister will come to meet him. He mentions various commissions before writing that the Doctors are expected at half past one. [Thursday evening] Bell the surgeon arrived to say that Dr. Gregory had been called to a patient in Northumberland. Bell asked him questions and employed his instruments, assuring him that there was nothing wrong and his complaint was common to men past thirty-five or forty. He is in pain from the operation but it has relieved his mind. |
