| Title | Letter from A S [Alexander Stewart], Dingl [Dingwall], to Mrs Stewart, [Margaret Stewart?], Royal Infirmary, Glasgow |
| Creator | Stewart; Alexander (1764-1821); British Presbyterian minister and Gaelic scholar |
| Recipient | Stewart; Margaret (1755-1819); British |
| Date | 6-13 April 1814 |
| Description | Alexander gives various pieces of news, of his boys' education, not hearing of the new insurance scheme in Edinburgh, and Mr. D. Fraser's visit to London, where he was invited to the congregation at London Wall. [7 April] Small had a letter mentioning their sister at Stair Manse. Mr. Macdonald is presently in Aberdeen and will go to Edinburgh as a Member of the Assembly. [8 April] Catherine's health led to her being sent to Inverness under Dr. Robertson's care, who assured them her condition was not consumptive. Alexander's own complaint is progressing gradually; although he can do his duties with care, he worries that like his brother it 'may terminate my earthly course'. [10 April] He describes giving catechism and the coldness of the English congregation. He has been reading [Philip] Dodderidge's works and gives news of friends. [13 April] He often thinks of those in Glasgow, including Mrs. and Miss Campbell, and he enquires of various people. Mrs. Calder 'labours under much weakness and distress'.
