| Description | Alexander supposes she is disengaged from the 'toilsome service' at the Infirmary and hopes she will find employment. He welcomes her enquiries about Sandy's future. Sandy will not return to his studies at Aberdeen, and he may proceed to Glasgow to be admitted as a Divinity student. Alexander notes travel arrangements resulting from that, which should not stop Sandy's aunt from an excursion to Perthshire. He asks her to secure lodgings for Sandy before she leaves and to give thanks to Mr. and Mrs.Sword for the invitation to Alexander to reside with them. Alexander gives an account of Sandy's abilities, comparing his manner to his sister Catherine's. He is concerned about their sister's health at Stair. He gives news of other mutual acquaintances, and his success at getting a Gaelic School at Dingwall. He concludes with an account of Mr. Hepburn of Clarkington, private secretary to Lord Melville, and Vice-President of the Edinburgh Bible Society. Hepburn wishes to renew their acquaintance and reprint Alexander's tract on the revival at Moulin. He notes Mrs. Calder's son, who has arrived back at Calcutta [Kolkata]. |
