TitleLetter from Alexr [Alexander] Stewart, Dingwall, to Mrs Calder, Balnagowan
CreatorStewart; Alexander (1764-1821); British Presbyterian minister and Gaelic scholar
Date23 June 1817
DescriptionIt is some weeks since he wrote, and Emilia wishes to convey her greetings to 'the faithful friend of her youth'. He gives news of his family, including Emilia whose health is delicate. Alexander has infirmities, including in his writing hand, for which he has a slip over his fingers to fasten a pen, and a ball in his hand to steady his fist. He thinks of her solitary position and promises to send any publication, one of which he encloses [not present], a life of Mrs Graham of New York, by Divie Bethune. He thanks her for the contribution to the new schoolhouse. He concludes by noting the various afflications of 'Mr. Hugh' [Calder] including his son's death.
