| Description | Alderson writes on cicatrices, or scars, and how they are formed in the epidermis in humans and animals. He discusses the role of the rete mucosum (corpus reticulare, Malpighian layer). Alderson shares case study of a woman with scarification from the use of cupping glasses, and observations on a child's umbilicus. Includes two watercolour figures, one of a bottlenose whale (Hyperoodon) and one of an umbilicus. Note in pencil from Peter Mark Roget reads 'NB. A report on this paper has been given. P M R'.
