Title | Unpublished paper, 'On the repair of tendons after their subcutaneous division' by Bernard E [Edward] Brodhurst |
Creator | Brodhurst; Bernard Edward (1822-1900); Orthopaedic surgeon; author |
Date | 1859 |
Description | Brodhurst describes a series of experiments which show firstly that a tendon, having been divided, may reunite without leaving a permanent scar; secondly, that the uniting new material may be drawn out to any required length, and may even acquire the thickness of the tendon itself; thirdly, that the addition of a new tendon does not impair the strength of the muscle, unless the length is more than sufficient, in which case it occasionally weakens the muscle.
Annotations in pencil throughout. Includes six plates of anatomical drawings.
