Title | Unpublished paper, 'Investigations into the effects of training walls in an estuary like the Mersey' by Leveson Francis Vernon-Harcourt |
Creator | Vernon-Harcourt; Leveson Francis (1839-1907); British civil engineer |
Date | 1890 |
Description | A description was given in a previous paper of the results of experiments with training walls in a working model of the tidal Seine ('The principles of training rivers through tidal estuaries, as illustrated by investigations into the methods of improving the navigation channels of the estuary of the seine'); and the present investigations were carried out with a similar working model of the Mersey estuary, from near Warrington to the open sea beyond the bar, made to a horizontal scale of 1/30000, and a vertical scale of 1/500, and with a bed form ed of fine bagshot sand. The experiments were directed to the solution of two problems, namely, the influence of training walls in the wide upper estuary on the channel below Liverpool, and across the bar; and the effects of training works in the lower estuary on the channel across the bar.
Includes two pages of figures.
Subject: Civil engineering / Marine engineering
