AP/10/12-29 are papers and letters relating to John Walsh's paper titled 'Binomial Calculus: Development of Functions'.
AP/10/30-54 are letters received by the Royal Society as a result of an irresponsible statement, titled 'A Curious Fact', published in the Sheffield Mercury and subsequently republished in various newspapers around the world. The statement promised that a reward of 'a medal and a hundred guineas' was offered by the Society to anyone who could explain satisfactorily the odd behaviour of two cards when blown upon when arranged in a certain way on top of a tube.
Two papers were published in the form in which they appear in this volume:
'On the mutual action of sulphuric acid and alcohol, with observations on the composition and properties of the resulting compound' by Henry Hennell;
'On the barometer' by John Frederic Daniell. |
