Description | Phillips discusses observations and experiments made to prove that the principles of bile exist in the blood, the liver separates these principles from the blood, bile is secreted from both arterial and venous blood, and chyle can be formed without bile.
John George Children's initials appear below the date received. An ink inscription final page verso reads 'Not to be printed PMR [Peter Mark Roget].' Corrections and deletions appear throughout in graphite and ink.

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 3 of Abstracts of the Papers Printed in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London [later Proceedings of the Royal Society] as 'On the secretion and uses of the bile'. |
