DescriptionHarris writes to Christie regarding the latter's experiments on the effect of the sun's rays on the oscillation of the magnetic needle. He shares his observations as a result of his own experiments. Four tables are included in the text showing measurements of vibrations taken in air and in vacuum, and temperatures taken in the shade and in the sun. Annotations in pencil throughout.

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 3 of Abstracts of the Papers Printed in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London [later Proceedings of the Royal Society] as 'On the influence of the sun's rays on the oscillations of the magnetic needle.
