Title | Unpublished letter, regarding the recovery of the wrecked frigate HMS Thetis from Thos [Thomas] Dickinson to the Royal Society |
Date | 12 March 1834 |
Description | Dickinson, having read reports of the recovery of freight from the wrecked frigate 'Thetis' which downplay his involvement in the process, writes to defend his account of the recovery. He maintains that he resigned to J F F [John Frederick Fitzgerald] De Roos 'the charge and direction of the enterprise for the recovery of the public stores and treasure' sunk in 'Thetis'. He shares extracts of two letters, originally written during the recovery process, in which he provides instructions to De Roos on continuing with the project. The extracts are dated 10 March 1832 and 12 March 1832 and were originally written by Dickinson at Cape Frio [Brazil].
Received 13 March 1834 by John George Children.
Written by Dickinson at the Royal Naval Club, Bond Street [London]. |
