TitleUnpublished papers, 'Mémoires sur la chute des graves, sur la trajectoire des projectiles, sur la cessation des oscillations du pendule, et sur la force-vive' [Papers on the fall of bodies, on the trajectory of projectiles, on the cessation of the oscillations of a pendulum, and on the living-force] by Zecchini-Leonelli
Date1837
DescriptionZecchini-Leonelli, Professor of Mathematics at the Ionian University [Corfu, Greece], presents four papers to the Royal Society. The first concerns the resistant forces acting on a pendulum or falling body. The paper is split into four sections regarding initial velocity and gravity, the length of the fall, a description of Zecchini-Leonelli's experimental setup and results, and slowing the acceleration of the fall.
The second paper concerns the trajectory of projectiles and includes a table of experimental results with column headings time, initial speed, acceleration, abscissa of the theoretical trajectory, coordinates of the theoretical trajectory, difference between two set points, coordinates obtained experimentally, and coordinates of the parabola according to Galileo. The third paper concerns the damping of a pendulum and observations on forces of resistance. The fourth paper concerns the living force. Followed by two pages of figures showing measuring equipment and the pendulum arc.
