DescriptionGrover describes a comet he has seen in the sky in Pisa [Italy], which he first observed on 17 March 1843 at 8pm. He writes to Roget asking for the notice to be read to the Royal Society in the hope that astronomers in England may also be able to observe the comet.

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 4 of Abstracts of the Papers Printed in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London [later Proceedings of the Royal Society] as 'Notice of the comet: in a letter from Captain John Grover, F. R. S., addressed to P. M. Roget, M. D., Sec. R. S.'.
