Title | Letter, 'An account of a large and remarkably luminous spot in the sea with remarks on the water taken thence' from Lieutenant Manley Dixon to Samuel Hunter Christie |
Creator | Dixon; Manley (fl 1843) |
Date | 6 October 1843 |
Description | Dixon explains how Captain F Eardley Wilmot observed a 'remarkable, though not very uncommon appearance of the sea' on a voyage from the Cape of Good Hope [South Africa]. This was a large and very luminous spot, which was clearly defined by a sharp edge. He describes the appearance of the spot, and also the steps which he took to obtain some of the water for the purpose of bringing it home to England and submitting it to a chemical test.
