DescriptionStevenson presents a series of propositions and theorems: that 'a metal is an earth sui generis; combined with electric matter'; that 'a (metallic) oxide is the same earth deprived of such electric matter, and combined instead with oxygen'; that this electric matter is found in, and forms part of, hydrogen gas; and that water 'cannot be the result of a combination of hydrogen and oxygen'.
