TitleUnpublished manuscript, 'Water' by W F [William Ford] Stevenson
Date14 April 1851
DescriptionStevenson argues that the common belief that water is a compound of oxygen and hydrogen is falsely held. He asks the Royal Society to use their influence to draw attention to the 'exposure of [this] error, which will otherwise long continue to paralyze and render delusive a science, that must be held of the first importance, as far as regards public utility'.

Accompanied by two letters from Stevenson to C R [Charles Richard] Weld and the Royal Society, dated 15 April 1851 and 19 May 1851.
