Description | An introductory letter to Joseph Banks, President of the Royal Society, from James Hutton regarding improvements in watchmaking made by Mr [Paul?] Preudhomme of Geneva [Switzerland]. Hutton writes that Preudhomme's work was copied and slightly altered by Le Cerf and then submitted to and subsequently published by the Royal Society.
The article by Le Cerf to which Hutton refers was published in Philosophical Transactions, vol 68 as 'Account of the advantages of a newly-invented machine much varied in its effects, and very useful for determining the perfect proportion between different moveables acting by levers and wheel and pinion'.
