Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 36 of the Proceedings of the Royal Society as 'Report on the tidal disturbances caused by the volcanic eruptions at Java, August 27 and 28, 1883, and the propagations of the ‘super-tidal’ waves. By Major A. W. Baird, R. E. Communicated by Lieutenant-General J. T. Walker, R. E., F. R. S., with a letter from the communicator containing an abstract of the contents of the paper'.
