DescriptionThe work which has resulted in the present paper was begun in Freiburg [Germany] in the summer of 1888, when Parker obtained a number of fresh specimens for examination. He presents detailed anatomical and physiological observations.

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 49 of the Proceedings of the Royal Society as 'On the anatomy and physiology of Protopterus annectens'.
