DescriptionShattock describes the 'five modes of wound-healing in man', 'the healing without separation of surfaces' , 'healing of gaping parts of incision without cork-formation', 'healing in Faba vulgaris; without sclerosis of scar tissue', 'healing in Ficus carica; with sclerosis of scar tissue', and 'healing by secondary adhesion, or when the surfaces are first healed by cork.'

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 59 of the Proceedings of the Royal Society as 'The healing of incisions in vegetable tissues'.
