Title | Unpublished paper, 'Sets of operations in relation to groups of finite order' by A N [Alfred North] Whitehead |
Date | 1899 |
Description | The general object of Whitehead's paper is 'to place this theory [the theory of groups of finite orders] in relation to a special algebra of the type of algebra considered in the general theory of the universal algebra. This special algebra, which may be called the algebra of groups of finite order, has many affinities to the algebra of symbolic logic; and a comparison of it with this algebra is given in the last section of this paper.'
Annotations in pencil and ink throughout.
Subject: Mathematics
Received 19 January 1899. Read 2 February 1899. Communicated by A R [Andrew Russell] Forsyth.
Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 64 of the Proceedings of the Royal Society as 'Sets of operations in relation to groups of finite order'. |
