DescriptionExplains that he decided not to correspond with his friends who are abroad due to the sensitive political situation and the business in which he was engaged. Recommends the carrier of his letter, Mr McRae and his friend Major Clarke to Blagden. Discusses his role as a government servant. Has now retired from public life and is improving his estate, 8 miles from Richmond. Has transplanted vines from Bordeaux and plans to experiment with making wine. Gives news of his family and their society, the late President [Thomas Jefferson]. Would be very glad to see Blagden should he visit the United States.
