| Description | The Colonial Office has informed him of the "afflicting news of the death of our Richie". Thanks Blagden for his warning about Wronski - has not seen him but did arrange for his packages to be returned to France without duty and for him to be given £40 as Young, Kater and Gilbert are fond of him. Has a letter from Davy of 28 January - Vesuvius has been erupting and has given him the opportunity to carry out experiments on liquid lava, he has also had great success unrolling papyri but has not found anything to repay his labour, mainly of the Epicurean school. Discusses article in Journal de Chimie refuting Congreve's theory that lime increases the heat of fuel, Congreve has been applied to by the owners of a steam engine. Discusses Wronski. Will not write more as he suffers from rheumatism in his right hand. |
