DescriptionDescribes launch of an air balloon on 27 August in Champ de Mars. Gives details of its landing and the reaction of the local villagers who feared it was the Devil in a new form or a sea monster. The balloon was launched by Robert and Charles. Faujas de St Fond would not let Monsieurs de Mongolfier near their balloon. The Academy will finance the repetition of the experiment. Three thousand spectators were admitted into the Champ de Mars.
