Mr Merry has just returned from visiting the President who has advised him not to stay in Washington after mid July so she hopes to be in Philadelphia soon and if not she will go west. Fears Blagden will not find America improved. Hope to see Blagden in October. Discusses Count Rumford, "I never liked that man. He is an absolute renegade". Condoles with Blagden on the death of Lady Palmerston. Gives news of Bonaparte's donation to the New York library. Her husband's career advances.
