DescriptionDiscusses necessity of keeping their connection secret - expects to inherit fortune from relations who would not approve of his relationship with her. Discusses danger already present as she has told her family about him. Sorry she has left Mrs Scott [Blagden's landlady in Edinburgh], agrees that she can maintain herself with her needle but says she can always depend upon him if she stays in Scotland. His brother agrees with him that she could make a living as a servant in London. Stresses importance of her living independently. Declares his love for her but says that he cannot marry her.
