Description | Explains that because of high prices, Scientific Societies are unable to publish important results of research on the same scale as before the war. Expresses serious concern that this is affecting the progress of science in the United Kingdom. Explains who the Conjoint Board represents (scientific, national and technical societies) and calculates how much money is required to publish more in these areas. Notes that the Royal Society gives £1000 from Government Grants but that a considerable increase in this fund is needed. Asks that the Royal Society receive an additional £3500 grant for the encouragement of publications important to pure science. Also suggests that the Government makes an arrangement with the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and the Medical Research Council to give the Technical Societies further assistance.. |
