Description | In reply to [George Clarke] Simpson's letter [CD/39/2], informs him that the Royal Society holds a fund entitled 'The National Physical Laboratory Pension Fund'. Informs him that the whole account will be available for Dr [Charles] Chree's retirement allowance. However, informs Simpson that the fund has £2626 9s 2d in it, which might not be enough for Chree to have £100 a year, and informs him that in 1910 the Royal Society has decided that the Executive Committee should pay up to £125 into it annually. However, these resolutions were not carried out after the Treasury took control of the National Physical Laboratory. Discusses a compromise where the Royal Society pays £63 a year and the National Physical Laboratory or the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research pays the rest. |
