| Description | Harrison has shown him the part of the letter referring to the Roscoff Station. They must err on the side of generosity. According to Gardiner, the station allowed hospitality without payment up to 1912, but this had to be stopped for financial reasons. Council agreed in principle to fund a table for five years, following a petition by influential Fellows, including Herdman, although the vote would be annual. Because of the wartime situation and the need to foster closer relations between scientists in France and England, it would be inopportune to discontinue the grant or to write to Delage in a way to suggest grudging support. An English physiologist, Mines, carried out some brilliant research at Roscoff in 1911-12. |
