Description | Points out the change in Statute 12 of the Royal Society's statues. The change means that now people can be recommended for election if they are 'Privy Councillors whose election would assist the work of the Royal Society', or 'distuinguished in the scientific or educational service of the State, or by their services to science and its applications', and recommended by only a simple majority rather than a 2/3 majority as it was before. Disagrees with these categories, as it would mean that rich people who donate money, or politicians, could be made Fellows at short notice. Asks for Statute 12 to be reconsidered, and for Fellows to be consulted. |
