TitleLetter from Charles Walker, to unknown correspondent
Date10 May 1906
DescriptionThinks that he [Walker] ought to explain the position regarding his paper. Explains that because the estimate for the illustrations was high he was allowed to obtain his own estimate, which he did from Mr Lawrence, a director of Waddington & Co. Ltd. Engravers. Notes that the cost estimated was about £7, and the difference between this and the Royal Society's estimate was so considerable that Walker thought to come to London and ask the Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society about it, but the Assistant Secretary could not see him. Since he did not know the workmen who would do the engraving for Lawrence, but had given Lawrence's name, he did not answer the Royal Society's question about who the engraver was - but assures them that he has had considerable experience of 'thousands of illustrations' done previously by Lawrence's firms.
