TitleLetter from J. W. Holderness, to Joseph Larmor, Secretary of the Royal Society
Date24 January 1905
DescriptionExplains that a Committee of the Government of India has recently been appointed to review the condition of the topographical survey of India with the object of bringing the maps up to date, and general to review the whole department. Does not find that the question of deconstructing the Trigonometrical and Geodetic Survey has been specifically referrred. Encloses a copy of the Order of Reference (resolution made by the Indian Government) [CD/60/5]. Cannot say how far Professor [George Howard] Darwin's apprehensions are justified, regarding loss of funds for the scientific surveys. Notes that if the Royal Society thinks that a caveat saying this should be made, then they should write to the S. of S. [Secretary of State] for India.
