TitlePaper, 'Memoirs communicated by Monsr Garcin to Monsr St Hyacinthe FRS containing a description of a new family of plants called oxyoides; some remarks on the family of plants called musa; and a description of the hirudinella marina, or sea leach' by Laurent Garcin
Date[1730]
DescriptionPaper sent by Garcin to [Paul de] Saint Hyacinthe describing a new family of plants with flowers and fruit resembling those of the oxys. Garcin describes what distinguishes this new family of plants from the oxys, and then describes two species that he has identified. He also provides a description of the musa family of plants, discussing whether or not this family can be classified as trees. Garcin determines that they belong to the liliaceous family. Lastly, Garcin provides a description of the hirudinella marina, a sea leech, concentrating on its shape, where it lives, and the mechanism of its rest and motion.

Includes an engraved figure showing the oxyoides javanica sensitiva, the oxyoides malabarica sensitiva, and the fruit of the musa. Translated from French by Mr John Martyn. Original French manuscripts found at CLP/10ii/12-13.
