| Description | Del Papa describes the effects of Indian varnish or lacquer [shellac] on bare skin, including itching, infllammation, heat, bumps, and swelling of the head and eyes, regardless of the part of the body that the varnish touched. He recounts his experiments using the varnish on animals, including chickens, dogs, and cats, none of which were seriously impacted by the varnish.
