DescriptionPaper regarding the making of salt in a salt mine called Saltern near Portsmouth [England]. The mine was owned by Captain Byndlos. Byndlos writes that salt made by the sun contains a substance called 'bittern' that causes meats to become rusty and hard. He reports that the salt made in Saltern is of a very high quality and has kept meat fresh for two years.
