DescriptionTaxonomy Subcommittee - set up by the South Pacific Expedition Committee to advise it on questions connected to the study of taxonomy. Terms of reference were ' to suggest to the South Pacific Expedition Committee a solution to the problem of the shortage of taxonomists and the provisionof taxonomic training ' Also the membership of Professor C F A Pantin (Chairman), Dr A J Chain, Dr W E China, Dr J E Dandy, Dr F C FRaser, Dr M W Holdgate, MR C E Hubbard, Mr E O Pearson and Professor T A Stephenson

Subcommittee becomes the Taxonomy Committee in June 1960; Council set up the Taxonomy Committee in June 1960 and its terms of reference were 'To consider the whole question of the need for taxonomists and provision of taxonomic training. ' The membership of the Committee had been constituted as follows; Mr E J H Cornere (Chairman), the Treasurer, the Biological Secretary, Dr H R Fletcher, Professor H Godwin, Professor W O James, DR T C S Morrison-Scott, Professor C F A Pantin, Professor O W Richards and Dr G Taylor. The first meeting of this committee is 29 November 1961.
