DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Francis Baily; John George Children; Samuel Hunter Christie; Thomas Galloway; Francis Kiernan; George Rennie; Peter Mark Roget; Captain William Henry Smyth; Robert Bently Todd; Charles Wheatstone; Reverend William Whewell; the Treasurer, John William Lubbock, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Anthony Panizzi to be informed that Council was willing to appoint a single referee to represent both parties to settle matters in dispute and the communication should be via Mr. Few. The Treasurer reported on the deputation to Lord Melbourne, who considered that the Society's resolutions would be considered and ought to be carried into effect. Letter from William Vaughan requesting Philosophical Transactions and Greenwich Observations for the Bowditch Library, Boston; Council regret that it cannot deviate from set conditions for such grants. Letter from Mr. Raspail requesting that the Society should purchase his collectin of fossils, declined. Resolved that the next meeting would consider vacancies in Foreign Membership.
