DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Francis Baily; Thomas Galloway; Francis Kiernan; Peter Mark Roget; John Forbes Royle; Reverend Adam Sedgwick; Captain William Henry Smyth; Charles Wheatstone; Reverend Robert Willis; the Treasurer, John William Lubbock in the chair; followed by the President, Spencer Joshua Alwyn Compton, 2nd Marquess of Northampton, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Letter from the Reverend William Whewell, Trinity College, Cambridge, 7 May 1839, to the Chairman of Council of the Royal Society, full text entered into the minutes: objecting to an element of the report of the Meteorological Committee read at last Council, relating to the height of the cistern in barometers and spring tides. Copies of the Library Catalogue to be presented to Mr. Bethune and to Mr. Few. Resolved that a committee be appointed to draw up a set of forms for certificates for candidates and to make other recommendations, the committee to consist of all members of Council.
