DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Francis Baily; John George Children; John Frederick Daniell; Charles Giles Bridle Daubeny; Thomas Galloway; Thomas Graham; Sir John Frederick William Herschel; George Rennie; Peter Mark Roget; Robert Bently Todd; Charles Wheatstone; the Treasurer, John William Lubbock, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Resolved that the seal of the Royal Society be affixed to the circular letter on magnetism to be addressed to the Pacha of Egypt. Letter from C. Wood, Admiralty, 30 July 1839, to Peter Mark Roget, full text entered into the minutes: asking for details of the glazed cases and other equipment recommended for Captain Ross, Dr. Todd to see Sir John Barrow on the subject. Resolved to recommend to the Admiralty that Mr. Daguerre's apparatus be furnished to the Antarctic Expedition. Resolution on the title of the Meteorological Committee's report and that 1,000 copies to be printed. Meteorological observers to be supplied with skeleton forms, once they had paid for paper and printing expenses.
