DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Francis Baily; Captain Francis Beaufort; Marc Isambard Brunel; John George Children; Samuel Hunter Christie; William Clift; Benjamin Gompertz; William George Maton; William Hasledine Pepys; Reverend Richard Sheepshanks; the Treasurer, John William Lubbock, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The reports by Captain Smyth, Professor Airy and Sir John Herschel were read and were to be communicated at an Ordinary Meeting, before being printed in Proceedings. Mr. Hudson's report on outstanding Library books was read and Hudson instructed to apply again to the borrowers. 200 copies of the Register of Tides to be placed with William Whewell and the Treasurer for distribution. Mr. Panizzi reported on incomplete and duplicate works in the Library, with many books destroyed by damp storage: the Catalogue Committe to consult with him on completions and disposals. Sheepshanks, Clift, Brunel, and Green to be added to the Catalogue Committee. Treasurer reported a balance of £483 16s.11d. on account of the Arundel manuscripts.
