DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Captain Francis Beaufort; John George Children; Samuel Hunter Christie; William Clift; Joseph Henry Green; George Bellas Greenough; Charles Konig; Roderick Murchison; William Hasledine Pepys; Peter Mark Roget; Reverend Richard Sheepshanks; the Treasurer, John William Lubbock, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Letters from George Biddell Airy, Sir John Herschel and Captain William Henry Smyth were read, consenting to the publication of their reports on Barlow's telescope. Letter read from Mr. Howship requesting the loan of illustrations from two papers, granted upon giving a written promise for their return. Letter from Mr. Vaughan of the American Philosophical Society requesting volumes of the Philosophical Transactions to complete a set; the Society to express regret that it no longer had the volumes. Library Committee recommendation that Mr. Roberston should be employed to assist Mr. Panizzi adopted, at one guinea per week. Library Committee recommended the construction of a gallery and additional shelving for books, consideration deferred. Resolution of Council of the Geological Society expressing the need for additional space for their collections and Library; a committee formed to report back to Council. The Encyclopedie Methodique to be half-bound. Letter from Thomas Spring Rice, Treasury Chambers, 31 October 1833, to the Secretary of the Royal Society, full text entered into the minutes: the Society's offer to extend the work of the Excise Committee accepted and expenses would be covered. Mr. Hudson to draw up an up-to-date appendix to the Account of Medals in the Gift of the Society, for distribution. Foreign Secretary applied for an Index of Transactions to be sent to the Royal Library Gottingen, approved. List of salaries and gratuities to Officers and Staff of the Royal Society. List of President, Officers and Members of Council for the ensuing year.
