DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Francis Baily; William Thomas Brande; Samuel Hunter Christie; William Henry Fitton; Sir William Jackson Hooker; Dr. Gideom Algernon Mantell; William Haseldine Pepys; Reverend Baden Powell; George Rennie; Peter Mark Roget; Lieutenant-Colonel William Henry Sykes; Charles Wheatstone; the Treasurer, Sir John William Lubbock, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. New Members of Council made and subscribed to the declaration in lieu of the oath. Appointment of Vice-Presidents. Re-appointement of committees, with lists of members: Library Committee; Committee of Mathematics; Committee of Astronomy; Committee of Physics, including Meteorology; Committee of Chemistry; Committee of Mineralogy and Geology; Committee of Botany and Vegetable Physiology; Committee of Zoology and Animal Physiology; each committee to be summoned as soon as possible to choose a chairman. Letter from Dr. Robert Lee, requesting the return of the drawings for his paper on the nerves of the uterus, declined. Seal of the Royal Society affixed to the addresses of congratulation to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Resolved that Foreign Member candidates shuld be proposed at the next Council meeting.
