Commencing with a list of Council members present: Francis Baily; William Thomas Brande; Samuel Hunter Christie; John Frederic Daniell; Sir William Jackson Hooker; William Haseldine Pepys; George Rennie; Peter Mark Roget; Lieutenant-Colonel William Henry Sykes; Charles Wheatstone; the Treasurer, Sir John William Lubbock, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Professor Link of Berlin added to the list of Foreign Member proposals, consideration of the list deferred until the next meeting. Letter from Sir John William Lubbock, Royal Society, 14 January 1842, to Chevalier Bunsen, full text entered into the minutes: following the commands of the Duke of Sussex, informing Bunsen of Council's resolution regarding the election of the King of Prussia. Letter from Christian Carl Josias von Bunsen, 4 Carlton Terrace, 15 January 1842, to Sir John William Lubbock, full text entered into the minutes: promising to raise the matter with the King of Prussia, whom he will meet at Ostend. Letter from Sir John William Lubbock, the Royal Society, 22 January 1842, to Chevalier Bunsen, full text entered into the minutes: noting the election of the King of Prussia to the Fellowship and requesting a date to add his name to the Charter Book. Consideration of the motion on the candidates' certificates deferred until the next meeting. Resolved that at the first and last meetings of each session, a statement on the condition of the Donation Fund. List of Foreign Members proposed for election.
