DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Dr. John Bostock; William Bowman; Sir William Burnett; Samuel Hunter Christie; Very Reverend George Peacock, Dean of Ely; Thomas Graham; Roderick Murchison; Peter Mark Roget; Dr. John Forbes Royle; Dr. William Sharpey; John Wrottesley. 2nd Baron Wrottesley; the President, Spencer Joshua Alwyn Compton, 2nd Marquess of Northampton, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Letter from Sir George Murray, Office of Ordnance, 3 June 1845, to the Marquess of Northampton, full text entered into the minutes: on the inconvenience to the Artillery Service experienced by the use of individuals for magnetic observations and their consequent withdrawal from professional duties; resolved that the President forward the letter to Sir Robert Peel with an explanation of the importance of the observations. Letter from Charles Richard Weld, Royal Society, 5 June 1845, to President and Council, full text entered into the minutes: laying before Council a Catalogue of the Maps, Surveys, and Miscellaneous Drawings and Engravings in the Royal Society Library; giving an account of his recent occupations, including the classification of the materials and their placement in portfolios; the letter to be considered at next Council. Each Scientific Committee to recommend one candidate for Foreign Membership. Sir William Molesworth applied for permssion to publish three letters of Thomas Hobbes, granted. Resolved that discussion on papers read at the Ordinary Meetings be allowed during next session, subject to such regulations as Council might make.
