DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Dr. John Bostock; William Bowman; Sir William Burnett; Samuel Hunter Christie; George Dollond; Very Reverend George Peacock, Dean of Ely; Thomas Graham; Sir John William Lubbock; Peter Mark Roget; Dr. William Sharpey; the President, Spencer Joshua Alwyn Compton, 2nd Marquess of Northampton, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Resolved that a gratuity of £30 be paid to Mr. Weld for work on the maps, charts, surveys, drawings and engravings. Resolution on the drafting of a statute on advance annual contributions, to be read at the next meeting. Sir John William Lubbock requested permission to resign as Treasurer in consequence of living outside London; accepted, with regret. A Royal Medal to be awarded to George Biddell Airy for his paper on tides in Ireland. List of salaries, gratuities and bills to be paid. Dr. Daubeny's paper on the rotation of crops to be the Bakerian Lecture for the year. Mr. William Dicks requested permission to make a small wood engraving of the mace, to illustrate the Abbotsford Edition of the Waverley novels, granted. Dr. Mantell applied for the loan of Ehrenberg's work on Infusoria, granted. The Assistant Secretary reported that he had visited Acton and found the Estate's boundary posts in good order. Resolved that the Assistant Secretary should write to the Editor of The Times in reference to a letter from 'A Contributing Fellow of the Royal Society'.
