Commencing with a list of Council members present: Sir William Burnett; Samuel Hunter Christie; Charles Daubeny; Thomas Galloway; William Robert Grove; Leonard Horner; Reverend George Peacock, Dean of Ely; George Rennie; Peter Mark Roget; Captain William Henry Smyth; the President, Spencer Joshua Alwyn Compton, 2nd Marquess of Northampton, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Letter from Sir Henry Thomas De la Beche applying for a grant of volumes of Philosophical Transactions for the Geological Survey of the United Kingdom, granted. Letter from John Davies and James Prescott Joule applying for a grant of volumes of Philosophical Transactions for the Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society, granted. Resolution on the expediency of obtaining a supplementary Royal Charter from the Crown: the President and Officers to form a committee reporting on what alterations would be desirable.
