DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Francis Baily; Captain Francis Beaufort; Marc Isambard Brunel; John George Children; Samuel Hunter Christie; William Clift; Benjamin Gompertz; Joseph Henry Green; Charles Konig; Roderick Murchison; William Hasledine Pepys; Stephen Peter Rigaud; Peter Mark Roget; Reverend Richard Sheepshanks; John William Lubbock, Vice President and Treasurer, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: the minutes of the last meeting were read. Stephen Peter Rigaud was sworn a new member of Council. Resolution on the reading of papers: in the event of doubt, the Secretaries to consult two members of Council in appropriate subject areas to determine whether a paper should be read or not. Mr. Sanford applied for an extension of time for admission to the Fellowship, granted. Dr, Granville applied for the loan of two plates, granted. Letter from Dr. Edmund Clark, requesting permission to digest facts and use plates from Philosophical Transactions, granted. Bills for printing and for Copley Medals. The Rumford Medal to be awarded to J. F. Daniell for his paper on 'Further experiments with a new register pyrometer'. M. Poisson acknowledged the honour of being awarded the Copley Medal.
