DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Francis Baily; Peter Barlow; William Thomas Brande; Sir Benjamin Collins Brodie; Marc Isambard Brunel; John George Children; William Clift; Michael Faraday; George Bellas Greenough; Charles Konig; Captain William Henry Smyth; the Treasurer, John William Lubbock, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Application from the Librarian of the Jardin des Plantes, Paris, for the Philosophical Transactions, and from the Depot de la Marine for the Greenwich Observations, granted. Committee to be formed to consider the Society's manuscripts, with a view to publication, committee members listed. Mr. Baily permitted to publish extracts from the Minutes and Letter Books connected with John Flamsteed. Ancient coins and medals in the Society's possession to be sold, the Treasurer to negotiate the sale. Oriental manuscripts in the Arundel collection to be transferred to the British Museum, with a satisfactory arrangement on their value. The appendix to Mr. Hudson's report on the adjudication of medals to be printed and distributed to Fellows and with each medal awarded. 500 copies of the lists of Instruments and Portraits to be printed and distributed to Fellows on application. M.Plana to be proposed at November Council to receive the Copley Medal for his lunar theory.
